When we opened Second Hand Prose Books at 30-A Hollis Sreet in Groton, we promised you community events and gatherings. Here are the first of them (not counting the Open Community Hours that happen every Monday morning at the bookstore):
Thursday October 3, 7:00 pm — Chris Lindemer will tell stories and read from her book True Cow Tales: Literary Sketches and Stories by Farmers, Ranchers, and Dairy Princesses. Rumor has it there will be heirloom apples from Chris’s orchard, behind where the “Oreo cows” — belted Galloways — graze on the north side of Boston Road in Groton.
Saturday October 19: Dushenka Sliverfarb will talk about her coobook series, The Model Vegan. There wil be vegan carrot cake and avacado-key lime tart.
Friday November 1: David Adams Cleveland, expert art historian and novelist, will read from his latest novel Love’s Attraction at 7:30 pm. The book is set in Concord, MA, wth scenes in Venice, Italy, and is based on the author’s and his children’s experiences as students at The Groton School. Love’s Attraction is getting 5-star reviews on Amazon and has been picked up by HBO.
Saturday November 9: Tom Begich, singer / songwriter and poet from Alaska, in performance with poet Tim Mason, out of Cambridge.
We couldn’t use the 3-by-10-foot sign that had graced the Acton store — Second Hand Prose Books is now in Groton’s historic district, and commercial signage is thoughtfully regulated. We designed a tasteful new sign that would not have been out of place on this street when our building was built in 1896 or so — or in 1796 for that matter (phone number and URL notwithstanding). We got on the agenda of the Historic District Commission and got the sign approved to hang in front of the shop.

Drop in on Saturday August 17th from 2:00 to 5:00 as we celebrate our recently completed move to Groton. We’ll have a variety of goodies from Bliss Bakery — newly opened on Main Street in town — while they last!
And books. The shelves are getting full, though there will always be more to do.
Admire our newly approved and newly hung sign out front. Enjoy the recently completed paint job — Second Hand Prose Books blue, which looks very fine in this bright space.
Hope to see you on the 17th!
